Tales of usury

Did you know that usury was actually illegal at one point?
My son is charging interest… to his coworkers… like a payday loan.  That’s better than anything I could make in the market.
According to wikipedia, back in the day (and we’re talking another century):
Moneylending during this period was largely a matter of private loans advanced to [...]

Over-saving is inefficient

So is over-spending.  But I won’t get into that here.
I had a question from a reader asking what my Myers Briggs type is – and it’s INTJ.
Despite the rarity of that personality type (aren’t we all such special snowflakes though?), there’s been some anecdotal surveys that determined that INTJ’s are overly represented amongst the early [...]

Drizzly Tuesday

Today is an at home day for me. Time to rest and do a few things around the house between rests.

It was a chilly night and now it's drizzling rain and windy. It would be a good day to have a fire going, if I had one. I will have to settle for turning on the furnace a bit and put something in the oven to give off warmth and a good smell.

I have laundry going and have pried the cats off me to quickly type this and do some marking. Time flies far too fast on days at home, when compared to a day at work.  Hardly seems fair LOL

Computational biologist Manolis Kellis on understanding life

Manolis Kellis is a member of Technology Review's newest TR35 "class." The MIT computational biologist studied pure computer science as a student, and as he recently explained to us, he believes his current work still fits that description. In fact, his goal is still to understand machines--living ones. You can read more about Kellis's work in our profile of him or in his essay, "Finding Evolution's Signatures."
